The Myths and Truths about TRT

Let’s dispel some of the common misconceptions about what Testosterone Replacement Therapy is – and find out what it can really do to help improve men’s lives.

Some might say that next to “get rich quick” schemes, the second oldest trick in the book is the ‘get healthy quick’ scheme. From Ponce DeLeon seeking the fountain of youth to snake oil salesman on the western frontier, Americans have always been obsessed with finding a better, faster and easier way to get into shape and look and feel younger.

Some men hear about the benefits of Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) and envision it’s the latest “Get Fit Quick” scheme. The truth is that for many men, TRT can help improve their quality of life in several ways.

But it isn’t a cure-all for everyone. Testosterone Replacement Therapy is prescribed to treat a specific set of symptoms in men that who are experiencing a medical condition called Hypogonadism, or Low-T.

Low-T and the Aging Male

Low-T, clinically “Male hypogonadism,” is a condition in which the body doesn’t produce enough of the hormone testosterone. Testosterone is an integral part of masculine growth and development during puberty. The body will continue to increase testosterone production until your thirties, at which point, production begins to slow down, as much as 1-2% every year.

In mature males, Hypogonadism can alter certain masculine physical characteristics and impair normal reproductive function. Symptoms of Low-T can manifest in the sexual, physical, and emotional/mental lives of men.

Improve Sexual Symptoms of Low-T
As the primary male sex hormone, Low-T can have a significant impact on male’s sex life. TRT Can help by:

  • Increasing sex drive
  • Improving erectile dysfunction
  • Improving fertility

Improve Physical Symptoms of Low-T
Low-T can impact a man’s body composition. TRT can help improve how men look and feel in several ways:

  • Increase in muscle mass
  • Improve bone density to reduce osteoporosis
  • Improve energy and vigor
  • Reduce development of breast tissue (gynecomastia)

Improve Mental and Emotional Symptoms of Low-T

Hypogonadism can also cause mental and emotional changes similar to those of menopause in women. TRT can help to:

  • Improve concentrating
  • Reduce Anxiety/Depression
  • Improve Sleeping
  • Reduce Hot flashes

TRT isn’t Anabolic Steroids

Another misconception that people may have about TRT is that it’s the same as taking anabolic steroids. The word “testosterone” has become stigmatized to some extent in our modern vocabulary. To some, it is the driving force behind “toxic masculinity” and others think of the muscle-bound bodybuilder with a back full of acne and ‘roid rage’ when they hear the word “Testosterone.”

But that couldn’t be further from the experience at Boston Vitality. TRT from Boston Vitality is an FDA-endorsed clinical treatment for a recognized medical condition, Hypogonadism. And as such, TRT is federally regulated by both law enforcement and clinical regulations designed to make it safe and effective for men to undergo treatment with reputable clinicians.

In addition to the clinical dangers of unregulated Testosterone, it’s also illegal to use or possess without a prescription. Under Federal law, the penalty for possession of illicitly obtained anabolic steroids is a maximum of one year in prison and a minimum fine of $1,000. The Federal penalty for trafficking in anabolic steroids is a maximum of 5 years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000 for first-time offenders.

Customized TRT Treatments

The levels of Testosterone used in TRT replacement are designed to bring your T-Levels back to natural levels of the hormone in the bloodstream. The illicit Testosterone and other substances that some athletes and bodybuilders may use contain significantly higher doses (as much as 50-100x) and often combined or “stacked” with other substances to increase their muscle-building effects. Buying black-market Testosterone from a guy at the gym is also risky because you don’t know where it was made or what is really in it.

If you think that TRT is a magic bullet to help you get “jacked” and “swole,” then you may be barking up the wrong tree. But what TRT can do is allow you to reach your natural potential, and it can help you get more out of the hard work you put into your workout and diet.
